Yet another incident of rape took place in Mulund, where a 50-year-old woman who works as a rag picker was raped by four men in the wee hours of Saturday.
The police, who were alerted about the incident soon after, have managed to arrest three of the accused at the time of going to press. The fourth accused is still on the run.
According to police officials, the woman had arrived in Mumbai a few months ago and since then, had been working as a rag picker. On Friday night, while she was returning to her shelter, she was waylaid by two persons on a bike.
In her statement to the cops, the woman alleged that she was raped by the two along with two other men.
“The woman was first raped inside a truck belonging to two of the accused and then dragged to a forest area near Amar Nagar, where she was raped again,” said a police officer from the Mulund police station.
However, the woman managed to escape and reached the police station on Saturday morning, after which the police filed a complaint against the four persons. Later in the evening, senior police inspector Jivajirao Jadhav from Mulund police station confirmed that three of the four accused men had been arrested.
